Getting into catering

Getting into catering

Catering is not exactly an easy industry to get into and there are many reasons for this. Experience is often key but schools do not provide students with enough education, certainly not enough to be ready in a working kitchen. To get the experience under your belt you need to volunteer and pick up skills, perhaps doing this in your leisure. When you do this, you’re showing your commitment to the trade and it means you’re more likely to be considered for entry-level replies. You can then begin to work your way up, but you’re not going to become the next Gordon Ramsay overnight. Working in a range of kitchens is the best way to round your skills and you should spend time practicing outside of working hours too. Catering needs to be your passion if you really want to make a success of it. It’s not just a job to get by. Remember this if you’re interested in becoming a cook or caterer.
